How to Attract Talent to a No-Name Company?
Sometimes a company is looking for specialists but is not ready to immediately tell them its name. For example, a recruiter writes to those who responded to the vacancy that the employer’s name is under NDA and will be disclosed after several hiring stages.
According to our experience, this is more often the case in fintech, crypto, small consulting firms, and internal startups of large companies (although the latter usually mention their “main” company).
This is done to maintain confidentiality or prevent competitors from finding out about a new product ahead of time.
Lack of information usually demotivates job seekers. Candidates may think hard about whether to respond to an offer from a “secret” company. Or whether it is worth spending their time on interviews and test assignments there. Strong candidates may immediately say “no”.
You can keep job seekers interested by telling them key facts about the NDA employer. For example:
◆ Founder’s name
◆ Market in which the company operates (industry, country)
◆ Company size
◆ Investment volume
◆ Product uniqueness: how it stands out from others
◆ Tasks: how challenging they are, interesting to candidates
☝️ The set of important facts depends on the role. For example, a top manager can be hooked by the figure of attracted investments, a story about the founder and the prospects of the product. For a software developer, the technology stack, team, complexity, and scale of tasks could be more important.
“You need to understand what facts to disclose when “selling” a vacancy to a candidate. Be ready to give more information at the next stages of hiring”, says the analysts and data scientists recruitment lead at NEWHR Oksana Prutyanova.
Here’s an example of how a recruiter could attract a candidate without naming the company:
Hi there! Due to confidentiality (NDA), I can’t disclose the company name just yet, but trust me, it’s a cool one! We’ll share all the details later in the interview process. In the meantime, here’s what I can tell you: it’s a niche B2C e-commerce product targeting the European market with an international product team. Their analytics team is currently 3 strong, and they’re looking for someone to champion a culture of A/B testing. Sound like something you’d be interested in exploring?
